All embroidery classes will be held at the Sparta United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

 

HISTORICAL STITCHES:  Introduction to Berlin Wool Work with Shelagh Jessop

Beginner to Advanced

Spend a relaxing morning learning the basics of Berlin Wool Work with Stuart Moores Textiles' plant dyed wool embroidery floss and AIDA fabric. We will cover all of the basic stitches and techniques necessary to create a small motif inspired by 19th century Berlin Wool Work patterns in class. Each student will learn the basic skills to become proficient at cross stitch and needlepoint with wool embroidery floss.

Friday morning- $50.00 plus $35.00 Materials Fee

Historical Stitches with Shelagh Jessop

Beginner to Advanced

Spend a relaxing afternoon learning the basics of wool embroidery (or crewel wool embroidery) with Stuart Moores Textiles' plant dyed wool embroidery floss and fabric. We will cover all of the stitching techniques necessary to create a small embroidered motif inspired by 18th century wool embroidery. learn the basics of wool embroidery including hoop set-up, pattern transferring, basic stitches, and finishing.

 Each student will receive all of the materials needed to create a motif in class as well as a pattern and all of the materials needed to make a large embroidered pin keep (biscornu) at home.

Thursday all day - $75.00 plus $75.00 materials fee

SHELAGH JESSOP is the one-woman-show behind Stuart Moores Textiles (read about her story on the SMT website). She is a textile artist and professional natural dyer, specializing in traditional natural dyes and dye techniques. Her art is inspired by the history of textile arts and crafts, from grand tapestries made by 11th century master artisans to hand stitched home goods made by 18th century homemakers. She has a degree in Textile Design and a two year certificate in Horticulture. She currently works out of her home-studio along the Potomac river in Maryland and shares her passion for textile craft as an instructor, teaching in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.
