Eco-Print on Leather

When Theresa first taught at the Blue Ridge Fiber Fest five years ago, she was still experimenting with eco-printing on leather.  Since that time she has perfected the process.  Join her in this class for a unique experience in natural printing.  Take home a work of art to be fashioned into something special. 

Prerequisite skills:  None

Pre-class homework:  None

Students bring:  Leaves from their area such as oak, maples, rose, hickory, sumac and interesting weeds. Fun additional plants (usually store bought) are live eucalyptus and daisy type flowers. No thick or waxy plants, although stems attached to leaves are fine. Fresh, pressed or dry. Dry leaves will be re-hydrated.

Also: Apron, notepad and pen (videos limited)

Class duration:  6 hours

Wool Drying Basket

The wool drying basket was/is used for air-drying washed wool. The open weave bottom and feet allow the water to drain and air to circulate. The wool drying basket is 12.5” tall with feet, 13” long, and 11” wide. While specifically designed for drying wool, this beautiful basket is great for other uses, such as storing your latest project or displaying special skeins of yarn.

 Size of basket: 14 ½” long X 9 ½” wide X 5 ½” tall without the handle—12” with the handle.

 Prerequisite skills: None

 Pre-class homework:  None

 Students bring:  Basket materials will be supplied, but students should bring an apron, an old towel, water bucket, spray bottle for water, clips or clothes pins, scissors and tape measure.  Students may bring their own basketry tools if they have them.
